New things to come in the New Year, 2010. New Phone Consultation scheduling options and Web Based Workshops !

This year I am going to be looking at adding Web based Workshops for my clients, and their referrals. It will allow those of you who are my clients who are miles and miles from my home where I hold my regular workshops to attend the workshops I offer.

There will be unlimited seating for the "Is Sonlight Right for You?" workshop as always. The more the merrier.

There will be LIMITED seating for the "Choosing and Planning" workshop as always. This workshop requires a much deeper thought, and more questions are needed to be answered, and therefore I feel it is a much richer experience for all attending if there are only a maximum of 8, same as the face to face workshop I hold in my home.

The "12 Ways to Get your Year Started Right with Sonlight" workshop. This workshop I am still trying to figure out how to handle. There are typically about 40-50 in attendance and this is a wonderful way to network with other Sonlight parents too, so that element of this workshop will be missed in a web based workshop.

That being said, I may ask someone to come and help me with doing the presentation on the web, as I am hosting the 'live' workshop so that those who are not close enough to attend this workshop in person, will be able to attend it all the same via the web based workshop. So there might be a small fee for those attending this workshop via the web, because I will need to pay the 'monitor' for their time to help me.

There is also another feature that I have already added to my 2010 year! That is the "Book Now" feature that you will find in the upper right corner of this blog site. That is so that you can schedule your phone consultation on your own, without us doing the email tag to figure out when we are each available. Each consultation will schedule for 30 minutes. As always, my preference for the Consultations is 9:00 pm. The reason is that both your family and mine will be in bed so we can each talk without interruptions.

Fall of 2009 - One to remember

It seems, when homeschooling, there will be times that try your patience and your well laid out plans and schedules. We moms need to remember to breathe during those times, and pray. God will bless!

For us the challenge began in September. It started on the 13th of September with me. I got an abscess and also found out that I had a bone infection and was to be on bed rest. It can be challenging to homeschool when the teacher is on bed rest. But it is doable. But may mean getting a bit off schedule.

Then September 19th came. At about 6:15p.m. our son got 'rolled up' in a football tackle after he had just planted his foot and got his tibia broke at the bottom, through the growth plate, in 3 places. Doing school while on pain meds doesn't lead to a great retention of what is read.

He was in pain for a time, and then had surgery to put screws in and then more pain. He was just released yesterday, to jump and run again, AFTER the therapist deems his muscles have regained their strength. It is amazing how much muscle tone and strength is gone in such a relatively short period of time.

Because of the meds with the surgery, his immune system is down and he has been sick twice since. WOW is it hard to get school done with all of this going on.

But still we trudge on. Hoping to get in the information that we need to get in before the end of our school year. Did I add in there that he is 14.... Need I say anymore? Where did his focus go?

Even though these trials have come before us this fall, we still move forward, and lean on God, and give it all up in prayer to God. Still we have bonding with family with homeschool no matter what the trial. We also have the ability to school in between all of the issues, getting more done than we give credit to. We as moms, just need to remember to breathe, and know that even though our best laid out schedules aren't followed to a T, that we are still doing good by our children. We are building positive relationships, and growing children for God. And we are giving them great education.

For all of this that has happened in our lives this fall, I would be lost without Sonlight and the well laid out plans that we have. Without those plans, our fall would have been much different.

Workshop Week

Wow! What a week. This week I held 3 Sonlight workshops. And because they were well attended, I have added two more next week for the over flow. I am doing another 'Is Sonlight Right for You' workshop, Wednesday June 24, 1-3p.m., and one more 'Choosing and Planning your Sonlight Future' Thursday, June 25, 10 - 1p.m..

The August workshop is also going to be coming up very quickly so look at your calendar to fit it in on August 18, 5:30 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. '12 Ways to Get your Year Started Right with Sonlight', a great night of fellowship with other Sonlight parents! As I look outside, I see that while I had been setting up for the workshops and holding the workshops this past week, my weeds have grown to almost bigger than my plants! I am always amazed at how a little water and the warmth of the sun produces those weeds to huge plants! So I should be off to weed my vegetable garden, and pick the ripe strawberries so the birds don't get them, and also pick the rippened raspberries, and MAYBE pull a few weeds. OOPS it is now pouring down rain, so this must mean I need a bubble bath instead!

One more thing; This year I am giving a book away to everyone who refers a new person to me that begins using Sonlight. Email me their names and contact information. There have been several of you who already have gotten your free book! Great Job! Thank you!

2009 Sonlight Workshops

Here are the 2009 Sonlight workshops that I hold at my home in the summer.

Pre-requirement – to have purchased your curriculum (I will have you bring pieces of it with you)

Please sign up for your seat as soon as possible. To do so, I will need your name, phone, address, email, and which workshop you would like to attend.

The 'Choosing & Planning' workshop has limited seating. I will add dates if the workshops fill up.

If you are unable to attend any of the workshops that you have signed up for, please email me at the earliest date, to let me know so that I can add others who are on my waiting list.

This year Sonlight has added a couple of ways for my clients to be connected to me. If you would please share this information with your friends I would appreciate it. It helps me to serve all of you better.

The first way is to go to Sonlight via sonlight.com/lynnwoodley that adds a cookie to your computer and when you place an order, it will assign me to you, unless your computer has dumped the cookies. The second way is to put into the source code my code for this year and that is 185SCC09. (How to make sense of that code, 185 = is my consultant number, SCC = Sonlight Curriculum Consultant, 09 = the year) That is a more sure way to get connected to me. Without the connection I don’t get paid. So I greatly appreciate you and your friends connecting me to you. It helps me to continue to offer these workshops free to all who want to attend.

Also this year for every friend you refer to me that purchases a core curriculum from Sonlight placing me as their consultant with the source code, I will give you a free book. Your choice of a number of them, at least until they start running out. I have 40 books now! I want to give them all away this year!! There is a great variety! You will need to let me know who they are. We can arrange the book! I will have the books at the booth with me in Portland, you can pick yours up there.

I also have a forum this year on the Sonlight site. You will need to request entry from me to gain access. I would love to have you join me there. I haven’t yet started it but will be doing so by June 10. Please send your request to join the forum to lwoodley@sonlight.com.

I am also thinking about holding the three workshops in California on the Monday after the Modesto event , July 27. If you are interested in these workshops and would attend, please email me as soon as possible. If I get interest, I will arrange to do the workshops.

Homeschooling does take commitment and a change in the way you do things in your life. First you need to be home to school, and second you will be busy in your school.

You can’t do all things because you are ‘home’. Although, I found by using Sonlight Curriculum, I was able to stay fresh and motivated because Sonlight does such a wonderful job doing the research and the planning, so that I was able to enjoy each lesson too.
